Li2ZrO3 coated LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode material for lithium ion battery was synthesized by a wet chemical method which using Zr(NO3)4·5H2O and CH3COOLi·2H2O as raw materials
and the influences of the different content of Li2ZrO3 on the electrochemical properties of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 was studied. SEM
TEM and EDS spectra showed that Li2ZrO3 coating was uniformly coated on the surface of LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 with a thickness of about 8 nm. Compared with the pristine material
LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 coated with 1%(mass) Li2ZrO3 exhibited excellent cycle stability with 91.77% capacity retention rate after 100 cycles at 1.0 C(the first discharge capacity was 184.7 mA·h·g-1
and the specific capacity after 100 cycles was 169.5 mA·h·g-1). The results of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) tests demonstrated that the Li2ZrO3 coating suppressed the side reaction between cathode material and electrolyte
and reduced the charge transfer resistance of the material during cycling
thus improved the electrochemical properties of the material.
