Solid-liquid suspension is one of the typical unit operations in the process industry and accordingly
study on the suspension performance is of great importance. In this paper
developments of investigations on the solid-liquid suspension in stirred vessels in the past six decades were reviewed. Subsequently
configurations of the commonly used stirred systems were introduced. The critical suspension speeds of solid particles in baffled and unbaffled stirred vessels were clarified and compared. Finally
the principles of different experimental and numerical methods related with solid-liquid suspensions were presented. Investigations on the effect of free surface deformation on solids suspension and the research status were briefly summarized. The future development of numerical simulation on the solid-liquid suspension in stirred vessels is discussed.
