Electrodes using chitosan (CS) and polypyrrole (PPy) composites as active matrix were fabricated by hot press molding without application of bonding adhesive. The effect of conductive agents on mechanical properties and the influence of fabrication conditions such as hot pressing temperature
molding pressure
hot pressing time and types of activated carbon on electrochemical performances were studied. The experimental results show that high performance composite electrodes were manufactured by this technique. Compared to those of graphite and nano-silver as conductive agent
the electrodes of activated carbon as conductive agent had the best swelling and hydrophilic properties
which also exhibited enhancement in electrochemical performance with the increase of specific surface area of activated carbon. The optimal hot press molding conditions to prepare electrodes were pressing temperature of 150℃
molding pressure of 10 MPa and pressing time of 20 minutes.
