Preparation and adsorption properties of magnesium oxide via spray drying
The flower-like MgO was synthesized by spray drying combined with heat treatment. The surface morphology of MgO was controlled by adjusting the heat treatment temperature. The adsorption properties of MgO powder as sorbent to Congo red were studied. When the heat treatment temperature was 400℃
a flower-like MgO nano structure was obtained. The specific surface area was 140.5 m2·g-1
and the saturated adsorption capacity of Congo red solution was about 1480 mg·g-1. Furthermore
the adsorption model
adsorption kinetics and adsorption mechanism were explored. The results show that the adsorption process accords with Langmuir adsorption model and the adsorption process of the sample to Congo red solution can be described by pseudo-second-order kinetics. The high uptake capability of the as-prepared flower-like MgO made it a potentially attractive adsorbent for the removal of Congo red from water.
