Characteristics of partial nitrification and denitrification via two-stage aeration
the domestic wastewater was treated in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The specific growth rate of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) was kept higher than nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) via the two-stage aeration. After 80 cycles
the rapid startup of the partial nitrification was realized and operated steadily. The results showed that the specific oxygen uptake rate (SOUR) could reflect the variation of the specific growth rate of AOB when chemical oxygen demand (COD) had been largely degraded. Analyzing the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images in different periods
it indicated that the quantity of bacillus was decreased and the quantity of spherical or elliptic spherical bacteria was increased. The establishment of 16S rDNA clone library indicated that the species of bacteria were rich and the microbes belonged to eight different groups of bacteria. Moreover
the β-Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were the dominant bacterial groups.
