The homogeneous graft copolymerization of L-lactide(L-LA) onto chitosan (CS) using ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([BMIM]Cl) as reaction medium was studied. The effects of various reaction parameters on grafting percentage
such as monomer content
catalyst concentration
reaction time and reaction temperature were investigated. The obtained chitosan grafted poly(L-lactide) (CL) was characterized with FTIR
1H NMR and TG. The results showed that the reaction efficiency of homogeneous graft copolymerization of L-LA and CS in ionic liquid was higher than that of non-homogeneous graft copolymerization.
