2(Dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate(DMAEMA)was prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization with activator regenerated by electron transfer(ARGETATRP)using mixtures of CuBr2(100 ×10-6or 200 ×10-6 of monomer mole)
reductant and ligand as catalyst. The effect of solvent
ligand and reductant on the polymerization was studied.Poly[2(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate](PDMAEMABr)with polydispersity 1.56 was obtained.ATRP of butyl acrylate(BA)was performed by using PDMAEMABr as macroinitiator in “onepot” method and amphiphilic block copolymer PDMAEMA-bPBA with polydispersity of 1.4 was prepared. The composition of copolymer determined by hydrogen proton nuclear resonance(1H NMR)was similar to that calculated from gel permeation chromatography(GPC).Two glass transition temperatures of the prepared block copolymer at -40.1℃ and 123.5℃ could be detected by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).This approach to preparing block copolymer decreased the use of catalytic cupric salt greatly and so simplified the postpolymerization treatment procedure. The dispersing efficiency of titanium dioxide in epoxy binder was enhanced greatly by using prepared PDMAEMA-bPBA as dispersant.
